I love the definition of self-help: "a norm to conform to, this time called authenticity, plus the fantasy of an easy, frictionless existence." Unfortunately I have been a big fan of self-help books.

I guess the good part is that no single book really "stuck" with me. I read different books, tried them out in life, and kept what mattered to me, what worked, what resonated. I guess that is at the heart of the experimentation that you describe.

I am proud to say that my experiments are continuing, although now with fewer self-help books, and more community. So glad that your writing and Philosophy Gyms are part of that community for me!

Cannot wait to see what you have in store for us next with your school.

Same here. I have read so many 😊 - they have been my entry to philosophy.

What an exquisitely chewy piece! This in-box is full of newsletters & such from brilliant people like Paul Krugman & Heather Cox Richardson and as I cast my eyes down the list (I start w/delete all & then select a few out) I thought ... "Wait! That's a Grokkist! How'd she get in here?" I do not know how it happened but I jumped right into it and was just delighted.

I am so old now (how did that happen?!) that my practices are probably hide-bound. As a BuJu Yogini follower of Jewish Jesus, I awaken with a prayer of gratitude and announce that this is going to be the Best Day EVER! And conclude my musings w/request for help: Let me be kind.

During the first half hour of the morn that I'm hooked to a machine and imbibing medical miracles, I feed my head with tastes from my "interesting" in-box. I hope you show up there again. Now, I'll go about my appointed duties. Today is craft a 6-7 minute talk on AI. Thank you for your contribution to my day ... trace
