I take two inspirations from this text: the search for the pattern in other areas when I have found it in one area. And the hint that scaling has an interface with colonialist thinking. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
The ultimate nature of the world and how it is spontaneously arising is inherently and tacitly obvious, if you remain in a state of total psycho-physical oneness with whatever and all that presently arises.
To remain in a state of total psycho-physical oneness with whatever and all that presently arises, you must necessarily, and always presently Realize Love-Blissful Unity with whatever and all that presently arises.
Presumed separation or total psycho-physical contraction from the world or whatever and all that is presently arising is, unfortunately, precisely the first and constant, and inherently problematic thing done by all those who make efforts to find out or to account for how the world is arising, and What Is its Ultimate nature.
Separation or total psycho-physical self-contraction is the first, and foundation gesture made by anyone who has a problem, or who is seeking, or who is making an effort to account for anything whatsoever.
Congratulations on the newest member Jessica! Big steps and huge more to come :)
I was affirmatively nodding my head all along reading this piece as so much of it resonates so deeply. I had briefly come across pattern thinking before, but its resonance to how behavioural science conceptualises diagnosing behaviour and sustainably improving behaviours is stark. We say that every action or set or actions (a pattern) is very broadly a function of psychological, social and environmental, contextual and time-related factors and it’s important to understand the workings + interactions of these factors before even thinking of changing them, let alone scaling a behaviour change intervention. There are so many case studies which highlight the problem with copy pasting interventions from one context to the other in a mundane context, let alone a deeper philosophical change.
Loved the definitive words around how there are no answers. You would like what the ‘Upanishads’ (the most ancient wisdom texts) texts alluded, ‘If you think you have found the answer to life, then you do understand it.’ :)
I call this philisophical urge "the will to coherence" (which includes biohilia, want of purpose, vision, care for health, but can also be perverted into the maintenance of self-suffering).
Deleuze described philosophy as 'the art of creating concepts' to distinguish from mere passive contemplation or reflection.

Thank you for your thoughts on this Ruth 🌱

Love this. Thanks for sharing. And I would love to dive more into the Upanishads - something that's on my list. Any recommendations of where to start?
Advaita-Vedanta.org / SanskritDocuments.org - where I started and has access to original texts, transliterations, and classical commentaries.
Beyond that, ‘Eknath Easwaran – The Upanishads’ (more accessible) and ‘Patrick Olivelle – The Early Upanishads’ (more academic translations).
Thank you!
